Welcome to Starways Arts Centre.
Amongst the lush forests of the Hogsback mountains in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, is a steadily growing Community Arts Centre. The artists who live and work here are dedicated to exploring processes of social empowerment and human integrity through the Arts. Starways offers the opportunity to do so in a beautiful, creative and eco-friendly environment.
The music events we put on at Starways' African-style Rose Theatre include opera, barber shop, acoustic music and electronica. Pearce van der Merwe a.k.a Flooting Grooves and Eliot Short as part of the Starways
family, offer live music events when they visit from their adventures abroad.
We also host poetry readings, deejay & vinyl evenings and community social events.
The Rose Theatre is also home for the ECCA poets, led by Norman Morrissey.
Our standing exhibitions feature water colours, oil paintings and flame fired pottery, held in the Pottery Studio, The Rose Theatre or Gate Cottage Gallery.
We offer regular workshops and retreats to serious practitioners of pottery, painting, poetry, creative writing and singing. Accomodation for participants is available at reasonable rates in our forest cabins.
Some of our artists in residence are also qualified teachers and practitioners of Alexander Technique, Personal Life Coaching and Neurolinguistic Programming. Inspired by Permaculture and Biodynamic practices we make a range of environmentally friendly products such as preserves, tinctures and pizza toppings.
Transforming the earth, through the power of our hands, into spirit-filled works of art.
